Manganese (Mn)
Manganese
The main function of manganese is the activation of enzymes responsible for important metabolic processes.
On one hand, it is involved in photosynthesis by activating the manganese-protein complex that transports electrons from water to photosystem II, in the process of water photolysis.
It is also involved in the microcellular respiration for many respiratory enzymes of the Krebs cycle.
It is involved in the nitrogen metabolism, being involved in the activation of arginase, an essential enzyme in the urea cycle.
