• Council Regulation (EC) 834/2007, of 28 June 2007, on organic production and labelling of organic products and repealing Regulation (EEC) 2092/91. This Regulation defines organic production as a general system of agricultural management and food production that combines best environmental practices, a high level of biodiversity, the preservation of natural resources, the application of standards demanding on animal welfare and production in accordance with the preferences of certain consumers for products obtained from natural substances and processes. Thus, organic production methods contribute to the environmental Protection, animal welfare and rural development.
• Commission Regulation (EC) 889/2008, of 5 September 2008, laying down detailed rules for the application of Council Regulation (EC) No 834/2007 with regard to organic production, its labelling and its control. It states that organic plant production is based on the Plant nutrition with nutrients that come mainly from the soil ecosystem.
